Variable Gaussian - Linear Mask

Variable Gaussian filters allows you to control the blur power within the frame. You could have the Blur effect appear only at some image side rather than over the entire image, thus to blur only the near plane and simulate depth of field effect, blur only the sky (like on an example below) or other image area.

Parameters:

Size
Controls the blur power. Value of 1.0 sets the maximum blur, but you can enter in edit field values up to 4.0 and get  more blur, but with a slightly reduced quality.
Area
Controls how large the soft area is. Value of 0.0 - no soft area, value of 1.0 - the whole image.
Side
Controls the position of the soft area. It is actually an angle to the blurred area toward image center. 0-left, 0.25-top, 0.5-right, 0.75-bottom.
Distribution
Higher values soften the boundary of the blur mask.

Depth Of Field effect example - blur the near plane (down side of the image on this example) to simulate DOF.
